Whirlwind is the only way to describe Jennifer Hawkins’ life since being crowned Miss Universe 2004. Jennifer won the coveted title in front of a capacity crowd in Quito, Ecuador, and before an estimated worldwide viewing audience of 800 million people. The then 20-year-old had only recently moved to Sydney Australia from her hometown of Newcastle to pursue a modeling career. Having never left Australia, Jennifer was excited to travel to Ecuador for three weeks of touring and competition as Miss Australia in the MISS UNIVERSE® Pageant. She had no idea just how dramatically her life was about to change.
The night of June 1st is still “a complete blur” says the beautiful, blue-eyed, blonde. “I was in such a state of shock all I wanted to do was call my Mum and Dad.” Hawkins is the youngest of four siblings and was raised by her parents Gail and Robert in Newcastle, Australia.
Not 24 hours after her crowning, Jennifer packed her bags and immediately moved to her new home a luxury Trump Place apartment in New York City. New York was home base for Jennifer as she traveled the world as an ambassador for organizations focusing on HIV and AIDS awareness. Within weeks of being crowned Jennifer spoke to a crowd of more than 18,000 people when she appeared onstage with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and world famous actor and activist, Richard Gere at the 2004 World AIDS Summit in Bangkok Thailand.
Performing has been a life-long dream for Jennifer. A dancer since the age of five, in 2001 she was chosen the winner of a national dance competition by a panel of judges, the audience and her peers. In the years that followed, Jennifer has turned her ‘agility’ on the stage into ‘ability’ on the water! She says she loves all water sports and heads to the beaches of Newcastle whenever she can.
In addition to her travels on behalf of various HIV/AIDS organizations Jennifer has also achieved many of her professional goals since her crowning. In 2004, Jennifer signed on as the new host of the popular television travel program “Great Outdoors” on Channel Seven in Australia and also inked a deal with Pepsi as a spokesperson for their products in Australia.
After crowning her successor on May 30th, 2005 in Bangkok Thailand, Jennifer had a break for a week in Bali before returning to Australia. Upon her return, Jennifer was snapped up by the international brand ‘Lux’ as its face for Australia and New Zealand - following in the famous footsteps of Sarah Jessica Parker, Gisele and Linda Evangelista to name only a few. This arrangement finished in 2007.
In 2005, Jennifer was appointed as the spokesperson for a new multi million dollar 5 star residential property development in Hong Kong for Henderson Land Group – known as the “Grand Waterfront”. The major television campaign featured throughout Hong Kong and southern China – further proof of Jennifer's global appeal!
In 2006, Jennifer signed with highly respected underwear brand LOVABLE which includes Jennifer being involved in the design process, being the face of their television and print campaigns as well as many public appearances including one at Westfield Parramatta before more than 3,500 screaming fans.
Shortly after signing the “Lovable” deal; the international cosmetics brand COVERGIRL came to Jennifer with an exciting proposal for her to become the first Australian face used by the iconic cosmetics brand.
In 2006, Jennifer’s television presenting talents were acknowledged when she was nominated for a Logie for “Most Popular New Female” talent at the 2006 Logies.
In 2007 the emergence of Jennifer Hawkins the businesswoman was revealed when it was announced that Jennifer would become the face of Australia’s biggest retailer MYER in a 4 year multi-million dollar deal which would set a record as the biggest modeling deal ever done for an Australian based model. The record deal also included equity in the MYER Company which would not only make Jennifer the marketing face of the company but also a major shareholder.
In late 2007, Jennifer approached MYER about broadening their relationship to include her own brand of swimwear. MYER leapt at the opportunity and 8 months later “COZI by Jennifer Hawkins” was launched to much fanfare and excitement.
Over the past few years, Jennifer has graced the covers of many popular magazines such as Australia’s leading women’s magazine, Australian Women’s Weekly as well as the fashion bible Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, and Cleo as well popular men’s magazines Men’s Style, Ralph, and FHM.
Jennifer is very aware of her public responsibilities and has donated her time and personal items for auction on many occasions for many worthwhile charities including Sydney Cancer Foundation, The Sydney Children’s Hospital, Canteen, and Make-a-Wish Foundation to name but a few.
Further cementing her popularity, Jennifer signed a deal to become the face of Siren Shoes as well as designing her own signature range of heels ‘JLH for Siren’ which was launch in 2010.
