Scottish born, New Zealand raised actor Erik Thomson completed a Diploma of Performing Arts at the New Zealand Drama School and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Drama at Victoria University, Wellington. Erik has been nominated five times for the Silver Logie Most Popular Actor Award – winning the award in 2003 for his role as Dr Mitch Stevens in the television drama series “All Saints”. Most recently, Erik was nominated for his role as Dave Rafter in the hugely successful Channel 7 series “Packed to the Rafters” in both 2009 and 2010.
Thomson’s other television credits include the television movie “The Alice”, “Wildside”, “13 Gantry Road”, “Pacific Drive”, “Hercules”, and “Xena, Warrior Princess”.
Erik has played roles in a number of feature films, including Cate Shortland’s “Somersault”, Elissa Down’s “The Black Balloon”, Dean O’Flaherty’s “Beautiful”, Andrew Lancaster’s “Accidents Happen”, and Scott Hicks’ “The Boys Are Back”, opposite Clive Owen.
For his outstanding performance in Somersault, Erik was nominated for a 2004 Film Critic Circle Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and was the Winner of the Showtime AFI Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In 2008, Erik was again nominated for an AFI Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the multi-award winning film The Black Balloon.
