Ruth Moody, Australian-born Canadian songstress, makes triumphant return with new album ‘Wanderer’ and launches first Australian tour in a decade.
Ruth Moody, the founding member of Billboard charting and Juno award winning folk trio The Wailin’ Jennys, is set to tour in Australia with her band in April and May 2025 in support of her new album Wanderer.
Moody released the long-awaited album in May 2024 to much critical acclaim, and embarked on tours across the USA, Canada, Europe and the UK.
Returning to her birth country Moody will kick off her Wanderer Tour in Australia headlining at the National Folk Festival on 18 April 2025 followed by a string of eastern state shows.
Recorded at Sound Emporium in Nashville, the self-penned album was co-produced by Moody and Dan Knobler (Allison Russell, Lake Street Dive) and mixed by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, First Aid Kit, The Decemberists). Her first release since the acclaimed 2013 album These Wilder Things and her celebrated collaborations with Mark Knopfler, Wanderer is a transcendent collection of ten deeply powerful and personal songs that reflect Moody’s inner world and wanderings.
“In a sense the album is a chronicle of my journey over the last ten years.’” says Moody. “It wasn’t necessarily intended that way; I took a pause from touring to start a family and raise my son. The songs kept coming and I kept having to put them on the back burner. But I think it was all meant to be that way. Taking that time, becoming a mother, and the experience of making this record have given me a heightened sense of gratitude, and have made me more passionate than ever for art and for doing whatever I can to help spread some joy and peace in the world.”
Moody has emerged with her musical instincts impeccably tuned, and a career-high statement of creative and personal vitality that beautifully captures the range of human emotion.
Wanderer explores the emotional journey of motherhood, the joy and pain of life, the mysterious and complicated dance of love, and ultimately the longing we all feel for home, wherever that may be.

“Possibly possesses the prettiest voice in all of North Americana these days” – Huffington Post
“Moody’s voice is clear and deceptively wistful, capable of conveying powerful and dark emotions.” – The Telegraph (UK)
“It’s not every day that an album sweeps you off your feet and hits the spot on first listening. Nor does every album have a complete set of songs that take your breath away. Yet, here we have both in this new album, Wanderer, from award-winning multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Ruth Moody.” – Americana UK 9/10
